SPRUCE GROVE ANNOUNCED AS 2017 SPOKE COMMUNITY

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MAY 18, 2017

SPRUCE GROVE ANNOUNCED AS 2017 SPOKE COMMUNITY

(Edmonton, AB) – ATB Tour of Alberta announces Spruce Grove as the host community of Stage 2 on September 2, 2017.

Spruce Grove, which is a mere 11 kilometres west of Alberta’s capital, hosted a finish stage in 2015. This vibrant city with a diverse arts, sport and culture scene will be the second “spoke” community along the 2017 route, prior to the cyclists racing in Edmonton.

“We could not be more excited to head back to Spruce Grove,” says CEO Duane Vienneau. “This is a tremendous community in so many aspects. The thorough local organizing committee and the passionate sports-minded community were so supportive of the event in 2015. We are certain the professional cyclists will receive the same enthusiastic, cordial welcome in Spruce Grove they did two years ago. We are thrilled to again showcase this wonderful community to the world.”

The 2017 ATB Tour of Alberta has adopted the hub-and-spoke model being implemented by other UCI professional races in North America and Australia. Alberta’s capital city, Edmonton, is the hub of the 2017 race, with additional communities, including Spruce Grove and Jasper, hosting spoke stages.

Detailed stage maps and course profiles will be released at a later date.
